St. Stephens

St. Stephens

St. Stephens Disciples Church of the Colored Western Assembly, was founded April 6, 1908, at the corner of Sampson and Divine Streets, Dunn, North Carolina by Deacon Danie Bissel, who came to Dunn from Bentonville Church in Johnston County. Deacon Bissel, along with his stepson, Mr. Claude Rodgers, cut the first bush and cleared the spot where St. Stephens now stands. After getting a few believers to work with them, Minister Walter Raynor, who at that time was Chief of the Assembly served as pastor.
