On October 22, 1886, Hickory Grove Disciple of Christ Church was received as a congregation at the 15th Annual Conference of the Disciple of Christ Church. This conference was held at Vine Swamp in Lenoir County. Brother A. Lovick Jr. made a motion, during the afternoon session. At that time Hickory Grove had 28 members.
